Kamthaan Movie Review : A laugh riot with some power-packed performances

Synopsis: Police ke he ghar mein chori? That’s what happens in this laugh riot called Kamthaan. It’s a situational comedy where a small-time thief makes the biggest robbery of his life, unfortunately, at a newly promoted police official’s house. This robbery ensures chaos in the town, with the thief and his leader trying to hide the stolen things, while policemen try to arrest the thief before an important day ahead. This movie makes you giggle every now and then, and the comic timing of the actors makes it a power-packed entertainer.

Story: SR Rathod is a newly promoted sub-inspector in Anjanipur, where nothing works properly-be it the lights in his cabin, his bike, or his luck. A petty thief, Raghlo, goes for the biggest robbery of his life to make ends meet and get his daughters married. He steals the uniform, pistol, and medals of the SI. The leader of their community, Chhanalal, wants his own revenge from the police department and hides Raghlo from them. After an order by his senior that Rathod must submit his gun for the Republic Day (26^th January) parade, there is complete chaos. With a crazy team, but a wise head constable, Rathod is on a mission to find the thief and get his things back as his reputation is at stake.

Review: Adapted from Ashwini Bhatt’s novel, Kamthaan is a fun and mischievous run and chase game between the thieves and the police, executed smartly by Dhrunad Kamble, Abhishek Shah and team. The film takes a little longer to build up the plot in the first half, but the turn of events in the second half makes up for it with strong performances, scenes, and songs. The music and background sound by Mehul Surti are the unsung heroes of the film. Be it the funny scenes or intense shots, it uplifts every scene.

Hitu Kanodia as SR Rathod, an aggressive police officer, makes his presence felt just with his intense eyes. It is a treat to watch Sanjay Goradia and Arvind Vaidya as Raghlo and Chhanalal, and their excellent performances might make many people nostalgic. Darshan Jariwalla is convincing as always as the head constable, while Shilpa Thakar as Panni foi is sharp and owns the screen. You can’t miss out on Deep Vaidya’s excellent comic timing every time he says something.

In an out-and-out comedy, a dialogue like “Nana manas na haathe lakhato hoye, tyare khabar na ho ke itihas rachahyi rahyo che” in the movie’s climax is certainly not what one expects. Go and watch the film with your friends and family and be ready for a laugh riot.
