The festive season of Sankranti promised box office fireworks, but two highly anticipated releases – Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga and Venkatesh’s Saindhav – have fizzled out, leaving cinephiles and analysts alike disappointed.

Naa Saami Ranga performed decent
Despite generally positive reviews and decent word-of-mouth, Naa Saami Ranga failed to achieve success at the box office. Its domestic collection of ₹ 35.1 crores gross is considered modest, especially for a Sankranti release. Overseas, the film bombed, grossing a mere ₹ 1.50 crores. The combined worldwide total of ₹ 36.6 crores is a far cry from expectations.
Saindhav considered a big flop
Saindhav released a day before Na Sami Ranga, received mixed reviews and an equally lukewarm reception from the audience. This led to a decline in the numbers, dropping below the ₹ 1 crore mark daily even before the first week ended. Its final domestic collection stands at ₹ 16.25 crore, while the overseas market’s contribution is a paltry ₹ 1.75 crore. Globally, the film only grossed ₹ 18 crore, solidifying its status as a flop.
What Went Wrong?
Several factors may have contributed to these disappointing performances. The timing may not be ideal, as audiences would likely be preferring lighter fare during the festive season. Additionally, the choice of genre (an action drama for Sami Ranga and an action thriller for Saindhava) may not have resonated as strongly with families seeking modern entertainment.
The box office failure of Na Sami Ranga and Saandhav serves as a reminder that even established stars and positive buzz are no guarantee of success. Understanding the audience’s preferences and selecting the right speakers is important for a film.
